Blue Cross Blue Shield announces departure from 85 GA Counties
Blue Cross Blue Shield just announced that they’re pulling out of 85 counties, over half of the counties in Georgia including Chatham county. This provider is the largest health insurer in the state of Georgia. The decision stems from the uncertainty in the White House, particularly Congress not giving health insurance companies answers, and threatening to eliminate subsidies to help lower deductibles for customers with lower incomes.
The company agreed to continue offering coverage in the 84 counties that will have no other health plans in 2018. For Chatham county, this leaves Ambetter as the only option – where there are fewer physicians and facilities that patients can utilize. We will keep you posted on further updates. See below for the list of counties that will still offer BCBS.
