Physician leadership in a clinically integrated environment
While change is sweeping across healthcare, there is a need of first-class physician leaders. In order
to effectively support clinical integration, there needs to be mutual support and trust between
physicians and hospitals. Another key issue for leaders to consider is that physician compensation
models should reflect the quality of care given. As physicians and hospitals strive to improve the
quality of care they need to ensure that in the process they are developing a culture of excellence.
Successful clinical integration will depend on how physicians are incentivized, the implementation of
an organizations infrastructure, and how an organization incorporates physicians into leadership
roles. By successfully doing these things, an organization will have first-class physician leaders that
will thrive in this ever-changing healthcare environment.
